June Membership Update

For those of you that have paid your dues for this season the Board thank you for your continued support.

For those of you that have not paid yet you are reminded that annual dues are effective May 1, 2010 and according to the Krewe By-Laws members not reviewing as of July 1, 2010 are considered past due. Therefore, any member not renewing by the July 19 general Krewe meeting will be subject to a $19 carrying fee. Also your present spot on your particular float will not be guaranteed. We will of course assure you a place to ride however you could be subject to reassignment.

Therefore, the Board would appreciate your prompt attention to this matter. If you have misplaced your invoice you may simply mail your check for $325:

P.R.I.D.E. Award

The Krewe of Gemini received a P.R.I.D.E. Award for their leadership and involvement in Mardi Gras 2010, which was named the “City Wide Event of the Year” by the Shreveport – Bossier Convention and Tourist Bureau.

Shreveport-Bossier Mardi Gras is a perfect example of what a community of people can do when they come together. According to the LSU Shreveport Center for Business and Economic Research economic impact analysis of the 2007 Centaur and Gemini parades, Mardi Gras generates over $17 million in direct revenue from out-of-town visitors, with a total of $32 million in overall economic impact to our community.

Krewes that were responsible for 2010 Mardi Gras parade organization each received an award. Accepting the awards for the various krewes:

Krewe of Asclepius – Captain Doug Kochenderfer
Krewe of Centaur – Darryl Folse
Krewe of Gemini – John Hubbard
Krewe of Harambee – Captain Verna Smith
Krewe of Highland – Captain Bob Marak
Krewe of Sobek – Renee Davis

The P.R.I.D.E. Awards, held annually during Tourism Week, were presented on May 13, 2010, at the Horseshoe Riverdome. P.R.I.D.E. stands for “Proud Residents Involved in Developing our Economy”.
